Reading by Alan Duff

Moderation: Dr. David Eisermann, WDR

Alan Duff made history of literature. He, who is a Maori, portrays the living situation of a family in a Maori ghetto. Unemployment, alcohol, violence, and the lack of prospects determine the daily life in this ghetto. Without any taboo Alan Duff describes the whirligig of self-destruction, which captures Beth’s family, but also her strength. Beth is able to live a vision, but harm, destruction and death precede this vision. He narrates in an impressing way the family-kaleidoscope, in which he reflects the facets of the daily life in this ghetto.

The film adaption of the novel made Alan Duff and his novel internationally known. For the Frankfurt Book Fair Alan Duff will be guest in Bad Berleburg to read parts of his novel 'Once Were Warriors'. He will be accompanied by Dr. David Eisermann, a WDR moderator, who will moderate this evening. You can expect an impressing excursion through literature, which will stay in your mind.
