As a child, Simón dreams of leaving his parents' bar and entering the world of Dumas' adventure novels. Barcelona in the 1990s is also full of joie de vivre, but neither the glamorous city nor the magical books can protect Simón from all the challenges that the future has in store for him and those around him.
Growing up in a bar on the outskirts of Barcelona, Simón is largely left to his own devices. This is definitely not be the best place for a little boy, but on Sundays, Simón's life turns into pure magic. Every Sunday his cousin brings him a historical adventure novel from the neighborhood book flea market. Simón never forgets the heroes of these novels. This doesn't change when his cousin disappears without a trace, when Simón learns to love and works as a chef in luxury kitchens. At the end, a disenchantment becomes apparent both in the glamorous city and in Simón's own life.
Miqui Otero's tender family novel spans several decades. His work memorializes his hero Simón and the meaningful power of literature, and in particular his hometown of Barcelona.
