by Thomas Sbampato
Canada Alaska - this is the land of dreams for adventurers and storytellers like the American writer Jack London. His books about the gold rush in the Yukon led Thomas Sbampato at a young age to climb the Pacific Coastal Mountains, paddle down the Yukon and dig for gold in the Klondike.
Meanwhile Sbampato spent more than five years in Canada - Alaska, published six books, countless articles and gave more than a thousand lectures about the North of North America. For the first time, the photographer and book author will present his best works in a lecture and thus the most impressive pictures, most adventurous anecdotes and humorous stories. In this way the listener gains intimate insights into the lives of his friends. He describes nature-loving characters who are rooted in the vastness of the north and their neighbours such as bears, moose, wolves and whales. He accompanies John Hall, who, equipped only with a pick and shovel, spent ten years digging through the permafrost of the Brooks Mountains until he came across a rich vein of gold. He tells about the life of Jeanne Keane, who became famous as the Eagle Lady, shows why the bride shoots the ostrich at the cowboy wedding and he experiences the everyday life of the Inuits in a small village in the Arctic, where his wife was a school teacher and taught the children. Sbampato tells about his life as an animal photographer and that he was the only European who had a driving licence for Denali Park for more than ten years. During this time he took his extraordinary pictures of grizzlies, wolves and fighting moose in the Serengeti of the North, at the foot of the Alaska Range. Some of his pictures are on permanent display in the park's Visitor Center.
Thomas Sbampato great series of pictures and his exciting stories describe a Canada and Alaska as only few people know it, that are about the colorful forests in the East, the polar regions in the North, the Rocky Mountains in the West and the last foothills of the stormy Aleutian Islands of Alaska.
Experience a varied and exciting portrait of the North of North America, experience the wilderness adventure and be inspired by the raw flair of freedom of "North of Normal".
