by Katja Heinzelmann
This year Katja Heinzelmann presents some of the numerous magical Indonesian stories.
Kanda Buwana was master of the Wayang, the shadow theatre. He was able to wake up the shadows. Once the old man used his magical power to ban the deceitful giant viper with his gaze and he was gone. For a last time the old man´s shadows could be seen on the hillsides. Covered with a loose magic cloak he carried a rainbow lizard on his shoulders. He was followed by the shadows of a he goat.
Since then his leather puppets are kept in the wooden box. Nobody took them out. But his wonderful fairy stories still exist. They deal with the numerous Indonesian islands far away in the east and appearing like pearls on an emerald string. Once they had been released from the bottom of the sea.
It is the place where earth gods dream in abandoned sanctuaries. And one should be wary of the revengeful daemons roaming the jungle.
Let yourself be charmed.
