Reading by Katja Kettu
Moderation: Rikarde Riedesel
Katja Kettu belongs to the youngest generation of authors who has made a name for herself in Finland which is the host country of this year´s book fair.
Her novel “Wild-Eye” was on the top of Finnish bestseller ratings for weeks and it deals with World War II in Finland. In the turmoil of the Lapland War the protagonist, a midwife, falls in love with a German SS officer.
Wild-Eye - that is her nickname - is a strong personality characterized by genuine vitality and sensuality. The love story of her and the officer is told retrospectively. He seems to be traumatized due to the fact that he was involved in the massacres of the Jews in Ukraine.
Katja Kettu´s novel evokes images that are partly very gloomy but at the same time full of vitality. Kettu´s novel bridges the gap between the events of the war and the reader in the 21st century.
