The author and journalist Linda Christanty goes on reading tours with her new essay collection in the course of the Frankfurter Book Fair. She will be accompanied by her translator Gunnar Stange, a Southeast Asia scientist and ethnologist.

Gunnar Stange introduces the author and her book with the following words: "This book provides a critical and courageous journalism with a provoking narration; hopefully it will not fade away in the turbulent media world. The author is - although she might not be aware of it - far ahead of policy makers of her time. From a journalistic and at the same time very personal perspective she depicts the parallels referring to the internal policy problems of Indonesia and its Southeast Asian neighbors. As a very sensitive and honest observer she describes people, policy and social environments in a very precise way. Thus she creates the basis for a shared problem awareness and therefore for a possible way to deal with these problems within the Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)."

Gunnar Stange

Gunnar Stange ist Südostasienwissenschaftler und Ethnologe. Sein Interesse gilt den Themen kollektive Identitäten, gesellschaftlicher Wandel, Konflikttransformation und Entwicklung im insularen Südostasien. Er ist wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Institut für Ethnologie der Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main, wo er derzeit ein Projekt zum Thema „Politische Organisationen jenseits des Staates in Aceh, Indonesien, und Mindanao, Philippinen“ im Rahmen des Sonderforschungsbereichs „Schwächediskurse und Ressourcenregime“ durchführt. Seine Lehr- und Forschungstätigkeiten führten ihn darüber hinaus an die Universitäten Passau und Wien. Im Herbst 2015 erscheinen neben dem von ihm übersetzten Essayband „Schreib ja nicht, dass wir Terroristen sind!“ der indonesischen Autorin Linda Christanty das von ihm mit herausgegebene „Handbuch Indonesien“ sowie die Monographie „Postsezessionismus – Politische Transformation und Identitätspolitik in Aceh, Indonesien“, die den politischen Transformationsprozess der indonesischen Provinz Aceh nach der Beilegung eines dreißigjährigen Bürgerkrieges im Jahre 2005 nachzeichnet.
