Multivision "Andalusia"

Multivision 'Andalusia' by Kay Maeritz: Cordoba

by Kay Maeritz

Kay Maeritz was already a guest in Bad Berleburg in 2006 with an impressive multivision when the Literaturpflaster dealt with the topic "India". Therefore, our organizers are very pleased to be able to win him again for the host country Spain.

Long before the Costa del Sol became known for lively tourism, the country in southern Europe attracted many foreign peoples. The Phoenicians and Romans already settled in sunny Andalusia. From the 9th century, the Moorish cavalry conquered the Spanish peninsula. The dispute between Moors and Spaniards, between East and West, lasted six centuries. During the journeys and horseback riding through Al-Andalus we recognize the traces of the Moors, we find them in the faces of the people, in the structure of the towns and villages.

The fiery flamenco is danced at the country's festivals and embodies the culture of the Orient. The pilgrimages are known as Romerias. Deep-rooted Catholicism is another legacy of the Spanish, most evident in the pilgrimage to El Rocio. Up to a million people can be counted in the 3000-inhabitant village in the sand of Coto Donana.

A cautious approach - on horseback and donkey through Andalusia. Nowhere else in Western Europe do horses determine everyday life in the same way as in Andalusia. They are present at the vaqueros, the "cowboys", when they work with the bulls, as well as at the Sunday rides at a feria.

The mountainous Sierras of Andalusia offer plenty of space for horses and riders, for explorers and the curious people with leisure and a desire to search for the unusual. Two non-riders who have decided to experience Andalusia on horseback cannot avoid coming across the traces of Don Quixote.

But that's not all, Matthias Möldner and Kay Maeritz try to buy a donkey in Granada in order to travel with the help of this animal over the Sierra Nevada to the Alpujarras. They finally find one in a suburb. When they meet the giant Andalusian donkey "Antonio" it's love at first sight. But no love remains without differences of opinion over time ...
