Lecture by
Prof. Dr. Ralf Schnell

Ralf Schnell, literary scholar and patron of the Literaturpflaster, gives an introductory lecture to present the Finnish epos Kalevala which appeared in 1835.

The leading thesis is that the motives gathered in this rich and colorful opus can be found in Finnish contemporary literature: new beginnings and adventure, fight and war, hatred and violence, love and death. The novels written by partly very young authors deal with the themes that move mankind. Their style is often stimulating and expressive.

In a short summary Schnell depicts particular lines of development, special works and representative authors. Against this background, he will identify current aspects and similarities to modern Finnish literature.

A special focus will be on the works of those authors who have been invited to Bad Berleburg.
