In French folktales heroes and heroines are mostly people from their own folk: charburners, gardeners, winegrowers or even day labourers. Here they go about their everyday business, little farmer girls tend sheep, screw the spindle or collect wood as they suddenly encounter their magic adventures. Nobles and intelligentsia scornfully called these folktales "Mother Goose Stories", leading to the fact that Charles Perrault originally published his tales "Les Contes de ma mère l'Oye" under the name of his son in the 17th century.
In the fairy tales of the French nobles heroes and heroines are rich, handsome and young and they live in palaces. That didn't change until the French Revolution.
You are invited to experience a wide range of French fairy tales.
