Reading by Kaouther Adimi
Presentation and translation: Regina Keil-Sagawe
Grown up in Algeria, the young author builds an independent life in Paris. She is going to return to her homeland because of the wedding of her sister. But she is caught up by her past, by the expectations of her family and her own fears and questions for the future. She takes a critical look at her traditional education as well as her joys and sorrows in the European city in a clever way and sometimes changing between nostalgia and cheeky humor. She is not very satisfied to be a single as she is already thirty.
In her second novel, Kaouther Adimi describes the balancing act of a young woman in search of her identity between different worlds and life plans. This piece of art is wonderfully self-ironic and humorous. The author outlines the great questions of life and provides the reader a deep look into the feelings of an entire generation.
The evening is accompanied by the translator Regina Keil-Sagawe, an expert of literature from Maghreb.
