Reading by Adriana Lisboa
Moderation: Rikarde Riedesel
Adriana Lisboa has already published ten books. She received the "Premio José Saramago" for her novel "The summer of butterflies" which was translated into German recently. With the use of strong images the novel tells the story of the sisters Clarice and Maria Ines who meet again after years. Together they uncover the dark secrets of their seemingly protected childhood. Due to her poetic style of narration Adriana Lisboa's characters are depicted in an intensive way and the story really captivates the reader.
Adriana Lisboa is not only author but also translator and musician. Her virtuosic handling with language reveals her talent.
A reading night that will pass much too quickly but that will leave its traces. If literature smelled like freshly baked cookies this novel could definitely be suitable to awaken appetite for books.

"The Summer of butterflies"
(Deutschlandradio Kultur, 2nd of September 2013)
A Brazilian family saga
"The future belongs to this author", says the Portuguese winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature Jose Saramago about his Brazilian colleague Adriana Lisboa. She has already published ten books. Now her novel "The Summer of butterflies" has been translated into German – a gloomy family history that not least mirrors the history of Brazil.
